Eisenhower Memorial Competition 2011
Over 40 architects and Students Submit Designs for Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Counterproposal Competition
In the spring of 2011, the National Civic Art Society (NCAS) and the Institute for Classical Architecture & Art (ICA&A) Mid-Atlantic Chapter invited classical architects and artists to engage in a competition to design a counterproposal to Frank Gehry's design of a national monument to President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
The competition, was open to any designer or team of designers who were citizens of the United States, sought to encourage the design of an appropriate, meaningful, and timeless memorial to Dwight D. Eisenhower, 34th President of the United States, five-star general of the United States Army, Supreme Commander of the Allied forces in Europe and Supreme Commander of NATO.
It is the hope of the NCAS and ICACA that this competition will continue to encourage dialogue among designers and the general public about the meaning, inspiration and dignity of designs that are suitable to commemorate a distinguished president and general.
